Chemical peels are designed to improve the tone and texture of the skin by peeling off the damaged outer layer. They are administered via a chemical solution that is put on the skin.
There are a number of surface skin issues that can leave people feeling very self-conscious of their face that can be improved through a chemical peel. Acne and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, rough or scaly patches of skin, and irregular skin pigmentation can all be addressed with a chemical peel.
Chemical peels come in various strengths—the stronger the peel, the deeper into the skin layers it penetrates. Chemical peels aren’t right for everyone, however. Patients with deeper scars or wrinkles or significant skin sagging would not see the rejuvenation they want through a chemical peel.
