Treatments using our advanced Sciton Joule® technology deliver noticeable, long-lasting improvements in skin tone, texture, and clarity. However, like any aesthetic treatment, results are influenced by factors such as sun exposure, aging, and your overall skincare routine.
Understanding what to expect and planning for maintenance can help you enjoy consistently refreshed, healthy-looking skin.
Why Maintenance Matters
Sciton laser and light treatments work by targeting pigment, stimulating collagen, and resurfacing damaged skin. While these treatments can produce dramatic improvements, they do not stop the natural aging process or prevent future sun damage.
That’s why a long-term approach is key. Most patients benefit from a combination of initial treatments followed by periodic maintenance sessions to sustain results over time.
Maintenance Treatment Plans
The Sciton Joule system we use at The Spa at Southeastern Plastic Surgery, P.A., in Tallahassee is a versatile aesthetic laser platform that supports multiple specialized treatment techniques, including HALO®, BBL heroic®, and TRL deep laser resurfacing.
The best maintenance treatment plan for you depends on the procedure or combination of procedures you undergo. It’s also influenced by your lifestyle, skin type, and the specific concerns you want to address. You can get answers to frequently asked questions about Sciton laser treatments in our earlier blog post.
Here’s a look at typical maintenance plans for various Sciton treatments:

BBL® HEROic™
BBL HEROic is one of the most effective treatments for maintaining clear, even-toned skin. It targets pigmentation, redness, and early signs of aging while also stimulating collagen production. After an initial series of treatments, many patients notice continued improvement in skin clarity and tone.
Treatment protocol:
- Initial series: 2–3 treatments spaced a few weeks apart
- Maintenance: Every 3–4 months
Regular BBL treatments are often recommended as part of a long-term skin health regimen, especially for patients with ongoing sun exposure or redness concerns.
Forever Body BBL™
This procedure extends the benefits of light-based therapy to areas such as the chest, arms, shoulders, and legs, where sun damage is common. Pigmentation improvements can last for several months, but new sun exposure may lead to recurring discoloration.
Treatment protocol:
- Initial treatment: 1–2 sessions
- Maintenance: Every 6–12 months, depending on sun exposure and skin condition
If you spend time outdoors regularly, you may benefit from more frequent touch-ups to maintain an even skin tone.
HALO®
This innovative hybrid fractional laser improves texture, tone, and early signs of aging by combining ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. HALO results are known for their longevity. With proper skincare and sun protection, improvements can last for years.
Treatment protocol:
- Initial treatment: Often just one session
- Maintenance: Once every 12–24 months
Some patients choose to schedule HALO treatments annually to maintain optimal skin smoothness and radiance.
Contour TRL®
A customizable erbium laser designed for more intensive skin resurfacing, the Contour TRL is often used to address deeper wrinkles, significant sun damage, and uneven texture. Because this laser penetrates deeper layers of the skin, these treatments involve a longer recovery period, but the results can often last several years.
Treatment protocol:
- Initial treatment: Typically one deeper session
- Maintenance: Every few years, or as needed
For patients who prefer less downtime, lighter resurfacing treatments may be performed more frequently rather than a single, deeper treatment.
Supporting Your Results at Home
In addition to in-office treatments, your daily skincare routine plays a major role in maintaining your results. We typically recommend:
- Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
- Medical-grade skincare products
- Antioxidants and retinoids, when appropriate
- Regular follow-up visits to adjust your plan as needed
